How to Make Kitchari


1 cup of white basmati rice
1 cup of split mung beans
4 cups of water
1 tablespoon of ghee
1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
1 teaspoon of coriander powder
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1 teaspoon of fennel seeds
1 teaspoon of grated fresh ginger
Salt to taste
Vegetables of your choice (optional)


1.Rinse the rice and mung beans together in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
2.In a large pot, heat the ghee over medium heat and add the cumin and mustard seeds. Cook until they begin to pop.
3.Add the coriander, turmeric, fennel seeds, and ginger to the pot and stir to combine.
4.Add the rice and mung beans to the pot and stir to coat with the spices.
